Wedding Industry Awards

On Tuesday 7th February, 2023 I attended a zoom call for the Wedding Industry Awards for Mid North Coast and Northern Rivers Regions. I was surprised and elated to win Best Wedding Cake Designer 2023. I didn't know that I had been nominated for this award but chose to engage and I won. I was the only cake business in our local area to qualify. The other 3 finalists were all from the Northern Rivers Region.

My lifetime friends and industry colleagues are calling this the Lifetime Achievement Award. It's only taken 35+ years to be an overnight success.

As an apprentice, when you show promise, you are encouraged to enter competitions. When your apprenticeship is finished, you need to decide if competition work is what you want to do or is producing a quality product and service every day what you enjoy? After winning every award I could win as an apprentice, and receiving a ship's wheel as my final Best Overall Apprentice Award in 1992, I decided that competitions were not for me. I still don't know what I was supposed to do with that award! Instead I have enjoyed a life of experimenting, refining and creating delicious dessert cakes for people to enjoy.

This award is certainly not necessary, but it is gratefully received. It is an honour to be part of a group of other dedicated businesses that strive to deliver quality services for your special occasions.

Mary Yule from the Forster Fortnightly interviewed me at the Palms Pavilion at Tiona Wedding Showcase on 12/2/23. You can read it here.

Barrington Coast on Facebook is also celebrating these awards, as they know how wonderful it is for our area. You can see it here.
